The
Del Mar Rose Society recently
held its first ever
live auction and plant
sale to benefit the
construction of the
proposed new Del Mar
Lifeguard station.
Committee members
Kristen Druker, Hilde
Koessler and Dwyn
Robbie of the Del
Mar Rose Society presented
Pat Vergne, Del Mar
Community Services
Director and Lifeguard
Chief with a check
in the amount of $900.00.
Commenting
on the inspiration for
the fundraising effort,
Dwyn Robbie stated "We
wanted to give back
to this organization
that has been so generous
and kind to our Rose
Society over the years.
The resulting amount
of $900.00 exceeded
our original goals.
We are thrilled with
the participation of
our members during our
auction." Kristen
Druker added, "The
Del Mar Community Services
staff, which includes
the Lifeguards, has
been very instrumental
in the success of our
Rose Society over the
years. The Del Mar Lifeguards
are a model organization,
acting as an anchor
for surrounding communities
and beach-goers throughout
the year."
According
to Pat Vergne, the proposed
new facility will provide
even greater benefits
to the 2 million plus
annual visitors to the
Del Mar beach. He shared, "The
main Del Mar Lifeguard
station is a multi-use
facility. It houses
beach maintenance, city
parking enforcement
and Lifeguard headquarters.
The proposed new facility
will enable more room
for first aid treatment
and will allow access
for our visitors with
disabilities." He
added, "I
am over-whelmed with
the outreach from our
Rose Society."
