In early July 2016 engineers discovered that the new almost-completed railroad replacement bridge over the Los Penasquitos Lagoon had settled about 10 inches at one span in the previous 2 1 /2 months. It would be expensive to fix the mistake, and likely add months to the schedule. In fact, the “fix” has been going on for seven months now, and in January all railroad traffic was discontined for two weekends with the crews working 24/7. Because of rain, a third planned weekend closing did not take place.
Once again, all railroad traffic was discontinued for the weekend of February 25-26. More stoppages are planned for the weekends of March 11-12 and March 25-26 (weather permitting).
